Hookless Shower Curtain

Hookless Shower Curtain

Hookless Shower curtain. I am sure you have seen the old fashioned shower curtain attached by hooks to the curtain rod. The problem with these old shower curtains are numerous. First, the hooks can easily pop off the rod as you slide the curtain back and forth. Second, the hooks can become entangled with each other. Third, the shower curtain can get caught in the rings or hooks can get torn which renders it useless.

Fortunately there is a solution, the hookless show curtain. As you can see in the image here, the shower curtain attaches without hooks. This eliminates all the problems presented above. Notice how the curtain fits easily over the rod without the need to remove the rod.

There are multitude of hookless shower curtains. Some include a removal liner. you remove the liner for cleaning, and attach back in place with snaps. Some designs are trnsparent which allows light to pass through. Others have solid colors or prints. Browse the variety of shower curtains shown below and choose the style right for you.

I have a hookless shower curtain. The only problem I have is the same problem I have with all shower curtains. That problem is cleaning them. Just like the rest of the shower, the shower curtain has mildew from the hot and damp environment. Plus, soap scum collects on the shower curtain. Soap scum is the reside from the soap (NaOH) binding with the oils and dirt on your skin. This becomes deposited on the wall, the tub and everywhere. Bar soaps have talc and create more soap scum than liquid soaps. If you fight soap scum in the shower, you might want to switch to liquid soaps.

The one product I recommend for cleaning a shower curtain is plain simple ammonia. You can find ammonia in your supermarket, generally near cleaning products or cough syrups. I get large bottles for less than $1.00. It works some much than commercial products that are 5 or 6 times that price for less volume.

Ammonia will bind with just about any oily residue and allow you to wipe it away. This is true of the soap scum on your tub and shower curtain. I mix about 1 part ammonia with 10 parts hot water and scrub this on the soap scum. It generally comes right off. If you have a large soap scum build up, you can even upgrade to mineral spirits to get rid of the oily deposits.

Because ammonia so reactive with oils it has many uses. It gets plant or tree sap off your hands. It can be used to neutralize poison ivy. It makes an excellent glass cleaner
